Mission
Trellis gives girls aged 11 to 16 a place to build — especially those who have moved often, are new to Switzerland, or grew up between two cultures. They build real engineering projects: first with their hands, from clay, paper and wire, then with electronics and code. With mentors by their side.
Every girl leaves a workshop with a project for her portfolio, a community behind her, and the confidence to keep building.

What you can build
Two hands-on STEM and tech workshops where you craft it, wire it and code it with a micro:bit, sensors and real code, then take home a project of your own that actually works.
Make Your Favourite Animal Dance
Craft it. Wire it. Code it. Then make it move.
Imagine your favourite animal dancing and lighting up the moment you make a sound. In this workshop you build exactly that. You craft your own animal figure, connect your first electronic parts to a micro:bit, and use simple code to program how it reacts to you. At the end, you take your dancing, glowing animal home.

Give Your Plant a Voice
What if your plant could tell you it is thirsty?
In this workshop you build a device that does exactly that. It measures how moist the soil is with a moisture sensor and speaks up through a microcontroller, with an LED traffic light and a sound, before your plant gives up. You read real sensor data, decide for yourself when your plant says enough, and program its reaction.

We build Trellis especially for girls who otherwise have little access to tech. Girls with a migration background, new to Switzerland, or simply without anyone to show them: tech is for you too.

Locations
We focus on the cantons of Zurich, Lucerne, St. Gallen and Bern, and stay open to collaborating with other cantons. We work in English, French, German, Swiss German and Spanish.

Questions and answers
What age are the workshops for?
For girls aged 11 to 16. We work in age groups so every girl is challenged at her own level.
What exactly do the girls build?
Each girl builds her own project, first by hand, then she brings it to life with technology and code, for example with movement, light or sensors.
How long does a workshop take?
About half a day, around five hours with a short introduction, plenty of building and a presentation at the end.
Where does the workshop take place?
At your school or at a place we agree on together in Switzerland. We bring the material you need.
Is any prior knowledge required?
No. No prior knowledge is needed, everything is shown step by step and the girls can ask questions at any time.
What does a workshop cost?
During the 2026 pilot phase the workshop is free for the first five schools — materials and supervision included.
